WORLD MUSIC UNLEASHED 2015
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 7th…the date for the World Music Unleashed 2015 concert. WMU will be held at the “usual” location, the Northwest Hills Church in Austin.
This year we are excited to announce that Grammy Award winning artist Mamadou Diabate will join as one of the featured performers! Originally from Mail, Mamadou plays the kora, a 21- string instrument found throughout West Africa. The kora sounds like a harp; yet it can produce the sound of flamenco and blues guitar when played with more traditional technique. Mamadou comes from a family rich in musical heritage. The family traces it’s musical origins back to the Mande Empire of the 13th century. Gourisankarji met Mamadou when he was invited to play on one of his albums, “Strings Traditions”, released in 2009.
Enjoy the sounds of Mamadou on kora, Gourisankarji on tabla and others…click here to see the video from Strings Traditions. Below is Mamadou’s instrument “singing”.
