Gourisankarji teaches tabla lessons individually arranged by the level of the students. Students of all levels are welcome. If any tabla student is interested in lessons but does not want to enroll in the semester system, please see Individual and Online Lesson pages for fee information.
Lesson Try Out
If you are not sure if you or your child would like to take the classes or would be of suitable age to begin the classes, a 30 minute “try out” can be arranged for a fee of $50, paid in advance by cash or check. If you decide to enroll in classes, the $50 is applied towards the course fees.
The yearly lesson schedule is broken up into 3 semesters:
Fall and Spring Semesters
12 lessons
In addition to the lessons, 3 Multi-day workshops will also be offered during the semester. These workshops will include music theory to complement practice; and for those of intermediate and advanced levels, there will be a focus on accompaniment.
This will be followed by a Recital performance of Gourisankarji’s students. In addition to the students, eminent guest artists will also be invited and will perform at this recital.
Summer Semester
6 lessons
In addition to the lessons, 2 Multi-day workshops will also be offered during the semester. These workshops will include music theory to complement practice; and for those of intermediate and advanced levels, there will be a focus on accompaniment.
This will be followed by a Recital performance of Gourisankarji’s students. In addition to the students, eminent guest artistes will also be invited and will perform at this recital.

Lesson Location
All lessons will be held at Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church, 3315 El Salido Pkwy, Room 201, Cedar Park, TX 78613 (see map on Contact Us page).
Lesson Duration
The duration of each Individual and Adult Group lesson is about an hour. Kids and Adult Beginners Individual lessons are 30 minutes and the Group lessons are one hour.
Other Information
Workshops
In addition to lessons, Multi day workshops for students of all skill levels (usually varies from 3 days) will be held at the end of every semester. The fees for these workshops will be announced at a later date during the semester. See Workshops page for more information.
Semester Course Structure
A detailed course structure for every semester will be introduced. There will be yearly examinations conducted by an external examiner which will be recognized by an accredited University
Student Performances/Recitals
At the end of every semester, following the workshop will be a day where we host student performances and recitals. In addition to the students, eminent guest artists will also be invited and will perform at this Recital. This will be a grand finale to every semester. Family and friends are all invited to this wonderful and informal event to enjoy and listen to all the hard work put in by our students during the semester.
Guest Performers
During the course of the year, the aim of the school is to invite great tabla masters as guest speakers/performers to Austin to enhance the learning experience of our students. Please stay tuned for notices on this topic for the upcoming year.
